How Our Team Stays Updated with the Latest Orthodontic Innovations

Orthodontics has changed a lot over the years—and that’s a good thing. Treatments are faster, more comfortable, and more personalized than ever before. But these advances don’t happen on their own. From day one, Goings Orthodontics has built our practice around tools and systems that improve your experience. Whether you’re scheduling an appointment, starting braces, or preparing for aligner treatment, the advanced orthodontic care we offer helps every step feel smoother and more efficient.

Better Tech Starts With Better Tools

The tools we use every day say a lot about how committed we are to staying current and to making your treatment a success. Every decision we make around technology comes back to one thing: how it helps you get the best possible care.

We’re proud to offer Fort Collins and Windsor communities an orthodontic experience built on some of the most advanced tools available today. Here’s a closer look at what that looks like in action.

3D Teeth Scans Make Everything Clearer & Cleaner

One of the things you’ll love at our office is that we don’t take goopy impressions. Instead, we conduct a 3D teeth scan to capture highly accurate digital models of your smile. These images allow Fort Collins orthodontist Dr. Goings to map out your treatment in detail and create a simulation of how your teeth will look after orthodontic care.  Not only is it motivating to know what you’re working towards, but you can also feel confident knowing the plan is based on highly accurate information from the very beginning. It’s more comfortable, less messy, and completely safe for patients of all ages.

We use this scanner for everything, from braces and Invisalign to retainers and custom mouthguards. That means you’ll never need a traditional impression tray for any step of your care, which has benefits beyond helping you and Dr. Goings envision your journey. For braces, it makes bracket placement more efficient and precise, which helps treatment start off on the right foot and stay on track (see the section about indirect bonding below). With Invisalign, those detailed scans lead to better-fitting aligners and smoother tooth movements. And when it comes to retainers and mouthguards, the accuracy of the scan ensures a snug, comfortable fit that supports both protection and long-term results. It’s a faster, cleaner, and smarter way to get the care you need.

Indirect Bonding For Unbeatable Precision

Let’s dive a little deeper into how it helps braces treatment.

Instead of placing brackets one by one by hand, Dr. Goings uses your scan to map out the exact bracket positions on a digital model of your teeth. Then, we create a custom transfer tray that holds the brackets in those carefully chosen spots. During your installation appointment, the entire tray is placed on your teeth, bonding all the brackets at once in a quick, comfortable, and precise manner that’s tough to match with traditional methods. This approach helps minimize placement errors, reduces the need for repositioning later on, and gives your smile the best possible start. You spend less time in the chair, and your treatment stays on track with fewer delays and adjustments along the way.

Digital X-Rays With Less Radiation Exposure

X-rays are a routine part of orthodontic care, but not all X-ray systems are created equal. At Goings Orthodontics, we use digital x-rays, which produce far less radiation than traditional film. That means safer imaging for you, your teen, or your child, and quicker appointments with faster results!

We also use 3D digital X-ray technology to get a complete picture of your teen’s teeth, jaw, and facial structure. This allows Dr. Goings to identify any impacted teeth, bone concerns, or signs of TMJ/TMD early on. By having this level of detail upfront, we can plan smarter treatments and prevent avoidable delays or complications.

Laser Technology For In-House Treatments

When you need gum tissue reshaping or laser treatment to aid in tooth exposure before beginning braces, many offices send you to an outside specialist with this dental technology. But Goings Orthodontics has in-office laser technology to perform many of these procedures right here! That means less back-and-forth between offices (and all the inconvenience that comes with it) and fewer interruptions to treatment. Laser tools also come with shorter healing times and more precise results. It’s just one more way our team combines advanced orthodontic care with patient-first thinking.

Braces That Work Faster & Feel Better

Braces may seem low-tech on the surface, but they’ve come a long way, too. We use self-ligating metal braces, which have built-in clips instead of colorful rubber bands for a low-profile look. This seemingly small design change isn’t just about aesthetics. Self-ligating brackets allow for reduced friction and smoother movement of the high-tech, light-force archwire, which can lead to faster treatment and fewer visits. Essentially, this dental technology means you’ll spend less time in braces and more time enjoying your aligned smile!

If you want something a little less noticeable, we also offer clear braces made from a tooth-colored ceramic material. These options work just as effectively but offer a more subtle appearance.

Dental Pain Eraser

Prior dental trauma or orthodontic soreness can make your child or teen feel uncomfortable before, during, or after getting braces or having adjustments. That’s why Goings Orthodontics uses the Dental Pain Eraser. It’s a handheld, drug-free device that helps reduce discomfort in seconds. It works by sending gentle, low-level electrical pulses to the nerves near the teeth and gums, interrupting pain signals before they reach the brain. There are no needles, no numbing, and no medications involved. It’s safe, simple, and kid-friendly, making treatment easier to manage and allowing adults, teens, and children to stay confident and comfortable as their smile shifts into place.

Virtual Appointments & Consultations

Though this isn’t technically an “orthodontic innovation,” or a technology update exclusive to orthodontics, virtual consultations and appointments are an incredibly useful advancement for patients and practices. It’s a never-before-seen flexibility in scheduling that makes it more accessible to busy professionals, families with jam-packed days, and those with mobility or transportation restrictions.

Our virtual systems are private, secure, and designed to work on your smartphone, tablet, or computer. If you’re progressing as expected or need a quick check-in, a virtual appointment can often take the place of an in-person visit. This saves time, cuts down on missed school and work, and still gives you direct access to our team. We can answer questions, check aligner fit, and provide updates—all without requiring a drive across town.

Modern Communication That Works For You

From appointment reminders via text and email to digital forms and billing, our communication tools are designed to be safe, secure, private, convenient, and easy to use.

Need to reschedule or check a balance? You can do it without making a call. Have a question between visits? Our system makes it easy to reach out. We want you to feel like staying connected is simple, not a hassle—no matter where you are or how busy life gets.

Why We Invest In The Latest Dental Technology

At Goings Orthodontics, we believe every advancement we make should help improve your care. We don’t adopt trends as a marketing strategy or for looking trendy—we invest in tools and systems that genuinely improve comfort, results, safety, or convenience.

You won’t always see each piece of technology we use, but you’ll experience its positive impact every time you walk through the door.

From your first virtual consultation to your final retainer fitting, we want the process to feel streamlined and stress-free. That’s the result of ongoing education, up-to-date equipment, and our commitment to offering the best orthodontic care possible.
